Standard plastic means Lightning's least expensive plastic (good for getting into the game without dropping a lot of $$). Standard plastic has a great feel and beats in easily, which makes it increasingly easier to throw.

Drivers:

The driver is the hardest disc to pick out. You may throw one driver 250 feet straight down the middle and with the same throw another driver will fly only 40 feet and way off to the left. Understanding how a disc is meant to fly compared to how it flies for you is the ticket to selecting drivers. If you've never thrown, all you can do is guess. If you've thrown before, you can gauge how your disc was flying before and make a more informed decision. Below is a general guideline to selecting from the drivers that we recommend for new players.

Lightning Driver #1: If you've never thrown a driver, the #1 Driver is a great choice. This is one of Lightning’s easiest discs to throw straight.

Lightning Driver #2: If you’ve thrown before and have decent arm speed coming into the game, the #2 Driver may be for you. This driver is made to accommodate those with a little more power. This disc is harder to throw straight than the #1 Driver, but will also hold a straight line without turning with more powerful throws. It has a larger diameter and a larger rim. Great for bigger hands.

Midranges:

As your game develops, you'll throw your midrange every which way you can imagine. Starting out, you want a midrange that flies straight and flat. These discs are designed to facilitate a beginner's throw to fly flat and straight without strain. Once you learn to throw a midrange straight, you can work on finessing it to fly at different angles to accommodate a variety of golf shots. Comfort in the hand and upon release plays a huge part in a midrange.

Slice #2: Easy to throw straight. Powerful throws will turn over. Large disc diameter. Good for bigger hands.

Flyer #1: Will fly with a slight predictable fade for most beginners. Straight-flying for more powerful throws. The #1 Flyer has a smaller diameter than the Slice #2.

Putters:

When it comes to putters, they all fly short and fairly straight. Comfort is the most important factor. Flight characteristics are worth noting, but will not come into effect nearly as much as drivers or midranges—as a putter is only in the air for a few seconds.

Putter #2: Straight-line putter with a tall rim and a big diameter. Flies straight without effort.

Rubber Putter: Straight-line putter with a more angled rim and a high dome. Made of rubber, this disc offers an incredibly tacky grip.

Upshot: Slightly stable putter with a short, flat rim. Great for long putts or short approaches. Will handle more spin and heavier winds.
